WOW! Happy Monday. This is the kind of board I see and my stomach does flips. In my mind I immediately dissect the workout and determine which parts will be the hardest to get through, which substitutions I might need to make and figure out what time I am shooting for. Scary looking boards excite me. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
100 Kettlebell Snatches - 26lbs.
30 Ring Rows
I finished in 14:25 and I felt damn good afterwards. I even left with a smile on my face. (I'm finding that nearly impossible not to do anyway)
Today we worked on squat cleans. This was my first time doing them. One of my favorite things about crossfit is that it still brings something new almost daily. I'm sure it will be that way for a very long time. I saw the board and I told myself I had to squat clean at least 100 pounds by my final round. It was iffy towards the end... That last 10 pound jump in weight felt like it may as well have been a million pounds. But after a few attempts I put it up. It was a maiden voyage as well as a PR. I love that I can call so many things a PR right now because I do not have any prior records to compare it to. :) ahhhh technicalities!
I was feeling energized and accomplished after I left the gym and so I decided to go for a run. It was too nice outside not to.
Today I tackled Cindy. I didn't actually tackle anyone. BUT, if Cindy was a real person, I might like to do more than just tackle her. She gives a beating that I would love to return. This is the baseline workout for our challenge. I can't wait to see how much I improve in 7 weeks. My goal was a minimum of 10 full rounds and I got exactly that.
15 Air Squats
(As many rounds as possible in 20 minutes)
I got 10 full rounds for a total of 50 jumping pull-ups, 100 push-ups and 150 air squats.
It was a butt-kicker but I secretly loved it. Shhh.... don't tell anyone.
Thursdays at my gym (Rainier Crossfit) are typically a skills days. You can either make up a workout that you missed earlier in the week or you can work on something you "suck at", a new skill, something you need more practice on, etc. Since I didn't miss a workout this week. I just worked on a couple different things.
Warm up 500m Row
GHD Sit-ups 6 sets of 10
Back Extension 5 sets of 10
We were on a little two day vacation from Thursday to Saturday on Vashon Island. I got up in the morning and did some stretching in my room. Then we took a nice leisurely walk around town in the sideways rain. We perused the local shops and tried to find a restaurant with food we could eat without losing points on the Whole Life Challenge. This proved to be a very difficult task. So we walked some more...
We ended up going to the grocery store and getting a couple of rotisserie chickens and a bag of lettuce. Oddly enough we had balsamic vinegar and olive oil in the trunk of our car because we had stopped at Trader Joes on our way out of town.
Ingredients - Chicken, Salt, Pepper, Lemon Juice, Olive Oil - DELICIOUS!!
We picked up a couple of black americanos and headed with our feast back to our room where we spent the rest of the rainy day inside listening to Pandora. It was wonderfully relaxing.
Today was a home gym workout. We spent some time doing some more organizing in the garage before getting a nice sweat session in. Here is the workout we did.
Run 400m - w/ a 30 lb. sandbag
25 Kettlebell Swings - 26lb. bell
25 Overhead Squats - w/ a 30lb. sandbag
Run 400m - w/ a 30lb. sandbag
I finished in 12:01
The hubs finished in 9:51
Hi athleticism annoys me :) Not really... He makes me proud but I still want to crush his time.
Weighted runs are NO JOKE!! It was only 30lbs. but the difference was unbelievable. It reminds me of when towards the end of the season on The Biggest Loser they have the contestants do a challenge where they strap the number of pounds they have lost to their bodies and do some sort of run. I've lost well over 30 lbs. and can't imagine trying to run with all that weight back on me. It was another proud moment.
Today is a rest day. I will probably do some light stretching and perhaps some yoga before bed but that is about it.
I am down 2.5 pounds this week. I expected a much larger number considering it was the first week of this challenge and I was on point with exercise every day and only faltered with nutrition on one day. But I should not be surprised as it is that not so fun time of the month for us ladies. Sorry gentlemen if that is TMI. Deal with it. :) But, a loss is a loss and I will take it. As long as I keep moving in the right direction, that is all that matters.
Share your workouts, weight loss and non-scale victories with me!! I'd love to hear them.
