I like the steps illustrated in the photo above. Every goal starts by determining exactly what it is that you are hoping to achieve. The next step is to develop a plan of action as to how you will achieve this goal. The next two steps are where things tend to get steep. It is very easy to set a goal. Most of us know exactly what we need to do to achieve everything we have ever dreamed of. Getting started is the hard part. After you jump over that hurdle, comes the next hurdle... sticking to it. For me, this is and always has been the hardest one. How many times have you made a New Years resolution, felt so steadfast, only to give up on it or completely stop working towards your resolution 2 weeks later? For me, that answer is more times than I can count. I think that my problem was that I did not set realistic goals for myself. I always went to extremes with everything. I set goals I couldn't possibly achieve and then beat myself up when I didn't achieve them. It was a vicious cycle of negativity and failure. Now I set smaller weekly and monthly goals. That way I still get to feel victorious many times throughout the process of achieving my larger goals.
I don't know about you, but I have goals for just about every area of my life. I have personal and professional relationship goals, financial goals, weight loss goals, fitness goals, etc. Some become more pressing than others but I like to say that I will will always be a continued work in progress.
Here are my goals for the month of September:
1. Make 15 new recipes
2. Finalize logo design and launch new merchandise on my site
3. Crossfit 6x/week (3 on 1 off)
4. Walk/Run 4 times per week
5. Lose 10 lbs.
6. Walk/Run a total of 100 miles for the month
7. Complete a 2 week strict low carb - paleo challenge I have written for myself
8. Get caught up on all recipe formatting and photo editing
9. Do one thing every day that takes me outside of my comfort zone
These may not sound like lofty goals... But, that is exactly the point. I can and WILL achieve all of these goals during the month of September.
What are some of your goals?? I would love to hear them!!
